Palace of Darius, Persepolis, IranLocated about 50km northwest of Shiraz , Persepolis was the capital of the Achemenid empire. Founded by King Darius The Great in 518BC. It was built on an immense half natural, half artificial terrace where the King of kings created an impressive palace complex inspired by Mesopotamian models. He did not live to see it finished. It was completed after his death in 486BC by his son and successor Xerxes.
Persepolis is a UNESCO Heritage site.
